MARK DESIGN STUDIOS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Mark Design Studios Architecture, P.C., an established creative architectural, engineering and interior design firm, has developed a summer internship program over the past several years. This internship program is designed to give aspiring architects exposure to all facets of the business and enlighten them with hands-on project experience. 

THE PROCESS

Preparation for the summer interns begins early in the year at MDS, discussing current and upcoming projects to see where help is most needed. Interns are carefully chosen based off skills, interviewing capabilities, communication, and overall desire to learn and grow.  Mark Design Studios not only embraces the summer internship program as an opportunity to attract younger talent at the firm, but as an experience to learn from youth and welcome new types of ideas, and technologies brought to the table.

2024 SUMMER INTERNS

For the summer of 2024, Mark Design Studios has selected two incredibly talented and determined interns to join our team. Christopher Thomas, and Taylor Calpo of NYIT both study architecture, and were searching for the right opportunity to help them gain hands on experience during their years as a student. Christopher, who had found our position through LinkedIn, and Taylor who was recommended through word of mouth, were both carefully selected after receiving many applications. Both Taylor and Chris stood out, they were interested in the specific type of design work we offer including commercial, school and municipal design.

This summer has been a great experience for all of us. Our team has welcomed our interns and genuinely enjoyed their energy and fresh ideas. It was an opportunity for our team members to mentor and offer insightful aspects of the industry.  Taylor and Chris visited several school districts where they saw firsthand how modernized spaces directly impact the faculty and staff. They spoke with the school staff, teachers and administrators which brought passion and big picture thinking to the projects they assisted with. Chris and Taylor were introduced to capital improvements and the business side of architecture to understand district grants and budgets allocated for new learning environments. This was of great interest to them, learning a different side of the business that is not necessarily focused on in school.
